He Remembered

January 2015 | Wallace Falls

I believe in sentiment. It's inevitably a part of our human nature, and I live for it. Sentiment, however,  cannot be made, not really anyhow. It's how we felt at a specific time in our lives that keeps our hearts beating a little faster when we think about it. It's how a fragrance can take you back to a certain time. It's when you remember something your husband did, and you can't resist falling in love with him time and again. Moments are everything. Like the time he proposed... and I said no. Like the time he sent me a key to his house, letting me know there was a place for me there. Like the times he reaches for my hand and we stay that way for hours. Like the feeling of when we said "I do," and felt like we were the only two people in that moment.

We selfishly celebrate our two anniversaries now. The day we proclaim we fell in love. And the day we wed. Until we married, we celebrated the first anniversary every year. Not with gifts, of course, but with experiences together. The same now goes for our wedding anniversary. So for our "fell in love" anniversary, he planned a camping trip and hike to a new place - just the two of us. We brought our pups, packed into our little Dolphin, and hit the road much later than planned. We took some wrong turns, got stuck a few times, and laughed about it. We hiked through sunshine and fog, reached heights that gave way to the most beautiful views and waterfalls. We stopped along the river and just watched it flow. We stopped in a small town for food and drinks on the way there and back, and I'll be damned if that wasn't one of the best parts of that weekend. Sitting at a small table just the two of us is something I greatly cherish.

I don't show him enough, but I am lucky to call him mine. To be loved so greatly loved by him is one of the best things to have ever happened to me. To love him in return is another. This year we celebrated 7 years of being crazy in love. How lucky are we?!

Trail Blazin'

It was a foggy, rainy day when a friend and I just said, "Hey, let's go." I'll never turn down an offer for accompaniment... or an adventure. So away we went! It wasn't the best day ever, which typically seems to be the case for me. I always end up able to take a day away when the snow already melted, or the rain just started, but you know - I'm ok with that. I love weather, all sorts. If you dress for it, it won't really matter. The best part, is that no place will be the same twice, and that I love!

So we grabbed lunch to go and explored some mountain roads, maybe had to back up a steep rocky road, and eventually found a waterfall to hike around and explore. It wasn't much, but it was all I needed. It's easy to forget how something so simple as being away from the city and breathing mountain air, can completely rejuvenate you.

Until next time.

Mountain Adventures

Before snow settled in the mountains, we headed up to Mowich Lake, an area only accessible during late summer and fall. I had only heard about this place for years before, my husband even tried taking me once, but the snow made it impassable. When he was deployed, Alyx, Kate, and I finally reached the top, and it was as amazing as I thought it'd be! You can see that, HERE.

Mountain lakes are always something else, surrounded by trees, and so fresh and cool you can't resist! I seem to never have our kayak or canoe on hand, but I hope get out on the water next time. There's still more to this adventure I can't wait to share... until next time :).

We didn't forget the last day of summer

Lake Cushman + Hoodsport | September 2014

As it worked out, my babes and I were able to adventure out for the last day of summer. We spent the day before at the fair, and even though we were ready to relax at home for the remainder of the weekend, we packed up a backpack and went to the lake anyway. The plan was to hike, but it was surprisingly warm, and with all the play by the lake, a hike would've left them too flushed. So we played. We climbed rocks and threw rocks, we tickled and laughed. It was simple and sweet.

I had only packed fruit and granola bars, by the time we left our first spot, our bellies were growling. Granola wasn't going to cut it, so we stopped but the local market and picked up an easy lunch to picnic by Anna's Bay, an inlet of the Puget Sound. This summer day will go down in the books. When I think of summer in the coming days of fall and winter, I will think of this day. When at Anna's Bay, I sat in the rocks by the water with my trusty pup often at my side, and I watched. I watched Alyx exploring and throwing rocks, I watched Kate figure things out, determining whether she would like it or not. As usual, Alyx found interesting bugs to show me (I really should start a series ;)), Kate built a fort out of shells. It was warm. It was happy. It was so very good.

Thanks summer, you did good. Really good.
